You can develop your forecast using many different methods: simple regression or one of the many time-series methods. These error metrics can be applied to a variety of numerical forecasts.

Sorry, I am just finding this comment. The best way to get an unprotected copy of a worksheet is to just copy the entire worksheet and paste it into a new empty worksheet. The copy will be unprotected. I protect my worksheets to make it difficult to overwrite or inadvertently change the underlying structure. If you make a copy and work on the copy of the worksheets, you will always have the original to fall back on if you make a mistake.

Thank you for publishing this article and downloadable spreadsheet. In geology we deal with many skewed distributions with limited samples and we are forced to make estimates of min, max and most likely cases. Your Excel method is a real gem!
